Anniversary Present for the Hubby

I finished this sample for my show last week and immediately knew who would love it . I would post a pic of his grinning face but you will have to take my word for it lol
This piece was constructed as an applique patchwork on a backing fabric of dove blue grey linen. The pieces were made on white fabric using stamps from my Small Garden Birds Collection . First I stamped in Versafine Clair ink pads in dark colours all over a Fat quarter size of fabric. I ALWAYS use a foam mat underneath fabric when I stamp on it. I cut up the fabric into pleasing vignettes
Next comes the paints. I dropped a few drops of Violet and Periwinkle Dye Na Flow paints onto my craft mat and diluted them with water and dipped my brush in to watercolour paint the patchwork pieces, then I hung them up to dry! Once ironed the colour is permanent

Next came the sewing part. I arranged the pieces on the linen backing and used Crafters Companion Stick and Spray for fabric to temporary baste the pieces in place. Then it was a case of sewing around all the rectangular patches

Once finished I cut the linen to a 16 x 18 inch size rectangle and also cut a matching piece, sewed them right sides together leaving a nice gap to insert the cushion pad inside. Then I finished up by hand sewing the gap. He absolutely loves it and he is tough to find presents for at the best of times lol !!
